MELBOURNE, Jan 7 AAP - An adult bookshop attendant has defended his turf by hitting an armed robber with a cash register.
Two men entered the Molan Street shop in Ringwood, in Melbourne's outer-east, just before 10pm (AEDT) on Monday.
Police said a handgun was pointed at the 44-year-old shopkeeper while the other robber demanded the till.
As the pair allegedly grabbed cash from the register, the attendant picked the till up and hit the gunman on the arm with it before chasing them out the store.
They fled the scene in a white Holden Commodore sedan parked about 50 metres from the shop and were last seen driving south down Heatherdale Road.
Police believe the pair may be responsible for an armed robbery at a Ferntree Gully milk bar earlier in the day.
At 5.45pm (AEDT) two men entered the Wattletree Road shop and approached the front counter.
One man pointed a handgun at the attendant while the second robber jumped over the counter and grabbed the cash register.
Both offenders escaped from the shop with the register, running north on Wattletree Road, then west along the bike track before heading north into Narcissus Avenue.
A third offender was waiting in a dark blue car.
The pair threw the register into the car before walking north up Narcissus Avenue toward Boronia Road.
The two suspects are described as Caucasian, aged between 16 and 23 and wearing dark hooded jumpers, with one wearing cream cargo shorts and sunglasses and the second wearing long trousers.
